Photographs: Caldow Family of Glencairn, Three Springs

We have just added another 45 photographs to Flickr.

In 1909 Robert Armstrong Caldow departed the UK for a new life in Western Australia. The following year he purchased 605 acres of land in Three Springs and named his property Glencairn.

He courted Miss May Isabella Byrne, who had moved to Three Springs with her parents in 1914. Their courting, for the most part, took place on the back of his horse-drawn sulky. At the insistence of her parents their courting was always done in the presence of May's sister Annie.

Robert and May married at the Agricultural Hall in Three Springs in 1921. Earlier that year a large new home had been built on Glencairn for Robert and his bride elect. They resided there from 1921 until leaving the district for Perth in 1934.

With many thanks to their second child, Mrs Jean Hodsdon, we now have a collection of their photographs. A number of them include other people of Three Springs. You can see our Caldow Family set on Flickr or can view them as a slideshow on our website.
